I have an older hybrid vehicle that’s having ABS module problems. The DC motor brushings wear down and the accumulator can no longer hold pressure. What usually happens is that hybrid owners will just replace the entire module.

I have looked around on ebay for the specific parts(dc motor, accumulator) and found that they do sell a separate accumulator. They also sell a dc motor but its electrical wiring is a bit different from the hybrid version.

I have the hybrid Toyota SUV and I was wondering if I can purchase a prius ABS module and swap it in, and just replace the accumulator with a larger one(they do sell a larger one) or will the prius ABS work just as well with slight differences in the accumulator capacity?

This is a bit outside my expertise, but if the Prius ABS module does not carry the same part number as your SUV, it is extremely unlikely that it is compatible with your braking system.

The way they designed the ABS module on the hybrids for Toyotas is flawed because its pretty much a 3 in 1 piece that can’t be fixed and bought individually. You have to purchase the entire unit with prices ranging from $300 to $1000. That’s almost 1/4 the worth of the car. And without it, the car won’t run at all.

But since the unit I have was malfunction and at the end of its life anyways, I thought I’d take it out and tinker with it or at least experiment with some individual parts that can be bought off of ebay. It seems that the only unit of the 3 that is different is the size of the accumulator.
