Generally a major brand of gasoline has all of the additives you will ever need to keep your complete fuel system operating efficiently for at least 100,000 miles. If you have a Direct-injection engine (also known as GDI) the tips of the injectors can get carboned-up and the spray pattern can degrade over time, and the additives in a major fuel brand can clean these up or prevent the occurrence. If your car has port-injection (most cars), the additives in good fuel will help keep the back of your intake valves clean. Severe carbon deposits on the back of valves or injector tips can cause a noticeable degradation in idle quality and possibly performance. In extreme cases this can cause an occasional misfire and possibly even cause the Check-Engine-Light of turn on. Many fuel additives are ineffective, but Techron is a reliable product. Look for a product with PEA in it if you think you might need a fuel additive. Even in the worst-case, you shouldn’t need to use this kind of product any more frequently than once every 10,000 miles.
